To improve the standing and promote the expertise of the property researcher; To foster and maintain high standards of ability and practice; To support and further the interests of the property research community; To provide a forum for the discussion of matters of interest to property researchers. These objectives are achieved through a variety of activities including a stimulating programme of seminars, lectures, field trips, discussions and social events throughout the year. The Society is pro-active in establishing working parties to investigate key issues within the property industry. Notable successes include its reports on Property Indices, Data Sources and Salaries. The Society actively encourages the formation of Special Interest Groups related to specific research areas; current groups are for Occupiers, Investment, Retail, European, New Zealand, Property Information, Geographic information in property and Sustainable development. With around five hundred members based primarily in the UK, but also in America, Europe and Australasia, the Society provides many opportunities for interaction with people engaged not only in property research, but across the entire property industry. A regular newsletter provides members with up-to-date news and views on events affecting the property research community. The Society also publishes ad hoc publications on specific issues, such as the Society's biennial Survey of Salaries and Benefits. The Society's Membership Directory is widely regarded as the Who's Who of the property research profession. The Society often serves as a catalyst in promoting industry-wide debates, and is active in encouraging links with related bodies. These include the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, the European Real Estate Society, the Investment Property Forum, the Bank of England Property Forum and the Association of Geographic Information.
