Paul McNamara
Paul joined (the now named) Prudential Property Investment Managers, in 1987 and assumed the position of Head of Property Research in 1990. In that role he is responsible for the overall direction of property research in PruPIM. This work focusses on assessing the prospective returns to the constituent elements of UK and overseas property market and advising client property funds on investment strategy both within the UK and, increasingly, around the world. He is a now a Board Director of PruPIM which, with property assets under management of c£11.5 billion, is amongst the largest property fund managers in the UK.
Paul has a first class honours degree in Geography from the University of St Andrews and a PhD in Geography from the University of Edinburgh. In 1992, he became an Associate of the (UK) Institute of Investment Management and Research - now incorporated in UK Society of Investment Professionals.
Paul is a member of the Property Advisory Group - a group of senior industry figures that advise the UK Government (through the Department of Transport, Local Government and the Regions, DTLR) on property market related matters. He is currently Chairman of the Property Finance and Economics Research Network (a premier UK network of academic property research organisations) and Chairman of the Investment Property Forum Education Strategy Group (the leading investment property-focussed organisation in the UK). In this latter capacity, he is now also a member of the Management Board of the IPF.
Paul is a past Chairman of the UK Society of Property Researchers and has worked with the SPR for many years as a Committee member and joint chairman of its Investment Special Interest Group. He was appointed the very first President of the Society at the 2001 Annual General Meeting.
Paul has been a Visiting Professor with the Centre of Estate Management at Oxford Brookes University since the mid-1990s, involving himself in both undergraduate, postgraduate and staff-related education and training.
He has recently become a non-executive director of IPD Holdings Limited and has long been a member of the Index Consultative Committee of the Investment Property Databank.
Paul is a regular speaker at and author on debates and discussions concerning the UK property industry.
